Yep. That’s it. We took away the forum to pursue more blogging, and other main-website related things. Don’t worry though, we’re planning on a lot of features for the site that will allow you to ask questions and interact with us. You can expect to see said new stuff on the site by the end of this week.

Discount Adobe Training: Flash CS3: Creating Games for the WiiIt’s Thursday, which aside from being awesome because it’s the day before Friday, means we’ve dropped another sweet addition into our discount training collection. This week, it’s Flash CS3 Professional: Creating Games for the Wii, a quick and amazing guide to developing Flash content that is playable through the Wii’s Internet Channel. Buying this product new, you’ll pay $49.95, and be glad you did. From us, you’ll make out like a bandit for only $39.95!

You can buy this training at our discount price through our Amazon store. Since you may want to watch a few movies before committing, you can check those out over at Lynda.com. Head past the break for a detailed description.

UPDATE: This item is now actually available for purchase in the All Things Adobe store. (Before, it wasn’t.)

This week, Lee Brimelow posted that Adobe will announce Creative Suite 4 on September 23. That means you’ll see new versions of Flash, After Effects, Photoshop. Dreamweaver, etc. really soon. Awesome!

Being a Flash guy, I’m naturally most interested in Flash. From what’s leaked so far on the web, Flash CS4 is going to be pants-wettingly amazing. So amazing, in fact, that I’m beginning to change my mind about how I think about the application. Move on past the break to see footage of some of the new features in action.

We’ve been working hard to make this new website legit: we’re trying to recruit bloggers, post more often, and add other cool features to the site. But alas, more content and a new direction leave us overwhelmed when managing older parts of the site, like the forum. For that reason, we’re planning to retire the forum pretty soon. That is, unless there’s a good reason not to.

Here’s our reasoning for taking it down- it may be too much community to manage right now. We want the main community feel of this site to be comments on the blog, which are still young and growing. There’s also a lot of spam posts on the forum, and rather than having forum moderators it seems to make more sense to put that recruiting effort into getting more bloggers.

Anyway, what say ye? Are you going to be broken hearted without our forum, or will it just be one less site for you to have to visit to get your Chad and Todd training fix? Let us know!

After a week of recording titles for Lynda.com, and a wonderful Labor Day weekend, Chad and Todd have returned safely to their respective homes. Everything is now back to normal, just like it normally is, normally. That means more blog posts this week as we get back in the swing of things. Good times!

Thanks to everyone that contacted us about writing for our blog! We’re reviewing all applications now and should get back to you shortly. Also, we’re still accepting applications, so you can still apply right now if you’d like.

Thursday comes again, and awesomely it comes with another deal! Today, it’s Todd Perkins’ ActionScript 3.0: Working with XML. The going rate for this title on a disc is $49.95, but we’re letting it go for…wait for it…$34.99! Unbelievable!

So, what will you learn from this disc? Basically, Todd Perkins teaches how to master using XML with ActionScript 3.0. You’ll learn how to work with RSS feeds to read data from external and remote URLs, as well as how to write XML data using E4X syntax and save it to a file. Also, you’ll learn how to work with different types of RSS data, such as that used by blogs and podcasts, as well as the RSS feed used by Flickr to bring Flickr images into Flash!

Sold? You can pick it up from the All Things Adobe Storefront hosted by Amazon. You can also watch some movies for free before you commit to buying. Continue reading past the break for a more detailed description of the training.

Yesterday, Lee Brimelow posted an interesting article about Flash Player 10 security. The issue lies with the FileReference class, which can no longer be used to open a browse-for-file window without user interaction:

In previous versions of the Flash Player, you could programmatically call theFileReference.browse() method to open a file browser dialog window which enabled users to locate a file on their system so that it could be uploaded to a server. Many existing applications use this feature including various WordPress and Flickr uploaders. In Flash Player 10 you can no longer spawn this dialog window programmatically and it must be initiated by a user click. The attempt to launch the dialog with code will throw a security exception, effectively breaking these existing applications.
